The Essence of Our History

Aprutino Pescarese DOP Extra Virgin Olive Oil originates in the province of Pescara, along the Tavo River valley, in the Vestina area, and along the upper Pescara River valley, in the Casauriense area.

This area was one of the first in Italy to receive the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) designation from the European Community.

With well over 60 members, the Consortium for the Protection of Aprutino Pescarese DOP Extra Virgin Olive Oil, founded in 1992, promotes one of the most renowned and appreciated Abruzzo products par excellence.

The Fruits of Our Land

There are three olive varieties typical of the
province of Pescara:

Dritta, from the Vestina area, also known as Loretana, Lordana, or Moscufese (indicating the municipalities of probable origin); Toccolana from the Causariense area (the most developed area is Tocco da Casauria); and Leccino, widespread throughout the region.

The production area boasts 1.8 million trees that yield, on average, more than 70,000 quintals of oil.

Doubly Special

The quality of Aprutino Pescarese DOP extra
virgin olive oil is an expression of the unique characteristics of the land where it is produced and the expertise of the olive growers.

They care for their trees according to a tradition passed down from father to son.

Regular use of DOP oil lowers blood cholesterol, helping prevent cardiovascular disease and arteriosclerosis.

Total Quality and Authentic Tradition

The Aprutino Pescarese DOP extra virgin olive oil is made from the Dritta, Toccolana, and Leccino varieties.

Throughout the entire production cycle, members must adhere to strict parameters:

The harvest must take place between October 20th and December 10th, to avoid using olives that are past their ripeness limit.

The processing time for the harvested olives cannot exceed 72 hours.

The "frangitura" (or crushing) of the olives and the extraction of the oil must be carried out in full compliance with traditional processing techniques.

Thorough control must be guaranteed, from cultivation practices in the olive groves to bottling.

A chemical-physical analysis and a panel test of the product must be performed before packaging.
